Mini Sawbuck Pack Saddle System (For Mini Donkeys Under 40”)
Designed by Eric Lynn of Mountain Ridge Gear, this mini donkey pack saddle system is purpose-built for donkeys measuring under 40" at the shoulder. Whether you're trail riding, training, or heading into the backcountry, this sawbuck pack saddle for mini donkeys provides a secure, balanced, and dependable fit.
Built around a properly scaled 12" wooden bar, this system ensures correct weight distribution and comfort for smaller animals. For best performance, your donkey should be properly conditioned so the saddle can settle and conform to the back.
Constructed with the same strength, durability, and attention to detail as our full-size pack saddles, this is professional-grade donkey packing gear made in the USA—ready for real-world use.

Every component is selected to ensure maximum strength, safety, and reliability on the trail.
Fit & Adjustment
To achieve the best fit, you may need to punch additional holes in the straps depending on your donkey’s build. This allows for a more customized, secure fit across a wide range of mini donkeys.
Overweight Donkeys - A Better Option
If your donkey is carrying extra weight, our adjustable ComfortStride Mini Pack Saddles may be the better fit. Overweight donkeys often develop fat deposits along their back, creating a flatter profile that can make traditional pack saddles harder to fit correctly.
In these cases, a standard saddle may only make contact along the outer edges of the bars, rather than distributing weight evenly. This uneven contact can lead to pressure points, soreness, and discomfort over time.
The advantage of an adjustable saddle is that it can be set to lay flat across the donkey’s back, optimizing full contact and improving weight distribution. As your donkey loses weight and their body condition changes, the saddle can be re-adjusted to maintain proper fit and comfort—eliminating the need to purchase a new saddle.
This makes it a practical, long-term solution for donkeys that are in transition or working toward a healthier condition.
ComfortStride Mini Pack Saddles are also designed to fit, goats, llamas, alpacas, mini horses, and ponies. The adjustable design allows for a customized fit across a wide range of small pack animals.
