How to Measure Your Animal for ComfortStride® Cinches
Getting the correct cinch size is easy and only takes a few minutes. Because every donkey is built differently, we recommend measuring your animal rather than relying on height or breed alone. Our pack saddles require two cinches. For donkeys, the rear cinch is normally 2" longer than the front. For cows the rear cinch is normally 4" longer. For mules and horses the rear cinch can be as much as 10" larger than the front.
Once you figure out your cinch size round down to the nearest even number.
What You'll Need
- A flexible sewing tape measure or
- A piece of string or rope (measure it afterward with a tape measure)
Front Cinch
- Locate a point approximately 4–6 inches behind the elbow (see illustration).
- Wrap the tape completely around your animal at that location.
- Record the circumference.
- Divide the measurement by two.
- Subtract 4 inches.
- Round down to the nearest even number cinch size.
Rear Cinch
- Measure approximately 12–14 inches behind the elbow (see illustration).
- Wrap the tape completely around the anaimal.
- Record the circumference.
- Divide the measurement by two.
- Subtract 4 inches.
- Round down to the nearest even number cinch size.
