Customer Reviews
Mountain Ridge Gear’s flagship panniers deliver unmatched versatility—designed to fit Decker, sawbuck, or riding saddles, making them the ideal choice for any setup.
Now updated with a 5" leather reinforcement strip along the bottom front edge, these panniers are even more durable where it matters most. While our original design has proven itself over thousands of miles, we’re always looking to improve. This added layer protects against long-term corner wear from hard pannier inserts, giving you even more confidence deep in the backcountry.
Premium Alum-Tanned Leather Reinforcement
The new bottom edge reinforcement isn’t just leather—it’s alum-tanned latigo leather, the same material we trust in high-stress tack applications. This leather is known for its dense fiber structure and exceptional strength, giving it outstanding resistance to abrasion and long-term wear.
You'll notice the signature yellow core, a hallmark of true alum tannage. It’s infused with the right balance of tallows and waxes, providing natural weather resistance while maintaining a supple, durable feel.
In practical terms, that means your panniers are reinforced with a material that won’t just protect—it’s built to handle repeated load, friction, and harsh conditions without breaking down.
Cordura® vs. Canvas — There’s No Comparison
In the backcountry, materials matter. That’s why we use 1000D Cordura® nylon instead of cotton canvas. It doesn’t soak up blood or hold odor, it won’t rot when wet, and it dries fast. It’s lighter on your animal and significantly tougher—delivering up to 15x the strength of traditional canvas. Simply put: it’s cleaner, stronger, and built for real-world use.
At the core of the design is a removable 1/4" x 1" steel bar stay, housed in a dedicated internal sleeve. This isn’t just added structure—it’s part of an integrated load system. The stay keeps the pannier open for easy loading, maintains shape under heavy loads, and reinforces the entire attachment system. All saddle attachment straps are tied directly into the webbing that encases the stay, creating a strong, unified structure that distributes weight evenly and reduces stress points.
Each set weighs approximately 11 lbs and rolls up compactly when not in use. Four external pockets provide quick access to essential gear without unpacking, keeping you efficient on the trail.
These panniers have been rigorously tested in the harshest conditions the American West has to offer. I personally stand behind every set—we build them to meet the demands of serious hunters and packers. That’s why they’re backed by a lifetime warranty.
And like everything we make—they’re proudly built in Colorado, USA.
