What makes Mountain Ridge Gear duffel bags different?
Mountain Ridge Gear duffel bags are made in the USA and built for people who need a simple, dependable bag that can handle hard use. Our solid-color duffels are constructed from heavy-duty 1000D Cordura® nylon, while our Kryptek camouflage bags use 500D Cordura®. We build our duffels with the same emphasis on durability and workmanship that goes into our pack equipment and other outdoor gear.
Is 1000D Cordura good for a duffel bag?
Yes. 1000D Cordura is an excellent material for a heavy-duty duffel because it offers outstanding abrasion and tear resistance while remaining flexible and relatively lightweight. It's particularly well suited for bags that may be thrown in the back of a truck, carried to the range, packed with hunting gear, used for tools, or subjected to regular outdoor use.
We use 1000D Cordura in our solid-color duffel bags because our priority is building bags designed for years of use rather than making the lightest bag possible.
What size duffel bag do I need?
It depends on how you plan to use it. Mountain Ridge Gear duffels are available in six sizes, from our compact XS all the way to our oversized XL.
The XS works well for small tools, toiletries, first-aid supplies and other small items. The Small makes a great kit, shell or vehicle bag. The Medium is a versatile general-purpose size. The Large works well for travel, gym clothes, hunting gear and outdoor equipment. Our Large Plus and XL bags are designed for people who need to carry or organize considerably more gear.
Because we offer such a wide range of sizes, many customers use several Mountain Ridge Gear duffels together to organize their equipment.
What can I use a Mountain Ridge Gear duffel bag for?
Just about anything. Customers use our duffels as travel bags, gym bags, tool bags, shooting and range bags, shell bags, emergency supply bags, hunting bags and general equipment bags.
We also use them ourselves to organize smaller equipment inside pack panniers. Instead of digging through one large pannier looking for an item, smaller duffels can be used to separate and organize gear.
Are Mountain Ridge Gear duffel bags made in the USA?
Yes. Mountain Ridge Gear duffel bags are made in the USA. We manufacture our gear in our Colorado shop with an emphasis on American craftsmanship, durable materials and products designed for long-term use.
Do you accept large government, agency, or organizational orders?
Yes. Mountain Ridge Gear works with government agencies, military units, public safety organizations, and other organizations needing duffel bags in larger quantities.
Because larger orders can involve production scheduling, specific colors or fabrics, and other requirements, please contact us before placing a large order. This allows us to discuss quantities, current production timelines, fabric availability, and any other specifications your organization may require.

Are Mountain Ridge Gear duffel bags available in MultiCam®?
Yes, MultiCam® can be ordered for larger or organizational orders. We do not normally stock MultiCam fabric, but we can order it when it is specified for a project or large order.
Because MultiCam availability and production requirements can affect lead times, government agencies, military units, and other organizations should contact us before placing the order so we can confirm fabric availability, quantities, timelines, and other project requirements.

Do Mountain Ridge Gear duffel bags have internal pockets or compartments?
No. Our duffel bags have a simple, open interior without built-in pockets, dividers, or compartments. This is intentional. An open design gives you maximum usable space and allows the bag to accommodate everything from clothing and hunting gear to tools, equipment, and other bulky items without fixed compartments getting in the way.
If you prefer more organization, smaller pouches, stuff sacks, or even our smaller duffel bags can be used inside the larger sizes to separate and organize your gear.
We believe a good general-purpose duffel should be simple, durable, and versatile. You decide how to organize it based on what you're carrying
What's the difference between 500D and 1000D Cordura?
Both are durable nylon fabrics, but 1000D Cordura is heavier and offers greater abrasion resistance, making it an excellent choice for hard-use equipment and duffel bags. 500D Cordura is lighter and more flexible while still providing excellent durability.
Our solid-color duffel bags are made from 1000D Cordura, while our Kryptek camouflage duffels are made from 500D Cordura.
Are Mountain Ridge Gear Cordura® duffel bags waterproof?
Our Cordura® duffel bags are highly water resistant, but we don't advertise them as completely waterproof.
The Cordura fabric has a urethane coating on the back side of the material that provides excellent, long-lasting water resistance. The fabric will continue to repel water for many years under normal use, and there is no need to apply aftermarket waterproofing sprays or chemicals.
The reason we don't call the finished duffel waterproof is simple: we do not seam-seal the bags or use waterproof zippers. In prolonged heavy rain, water can eventually work its way through the seams or zipper even though the Cordura fabric itself remains highly water resistant.
For normal outdoor use, hunting, camping, travel, riding in the back of a truck, or protecting gear from rain and moisture, our Cordura duffels provide excellent protection. However, they are not intended to function as waterproof dry bags or for submersion.
Can I use these duffels as tool bags or equipment bags?
Absolutely. The abrasion resistance of Cordura makes our duffels particularly well suited for carrying tools and equipment. Our smaller sizes work well for hand tools, emergency equipment and vehicle kits, while the larger sizes can carry considerably more equipment.
Are these good duffel bags for hunting and outdoor gear?
Yes. Our duffels were designed with outdoor use in mind. The durable Cordura construction makes them well suited for hunting gear, camping equipment, shooting supplies and other outdoor equipment.
We also use our duffels with our own pack equipment to keep gear separated and organized inside panniers.
How long should a 1000D Cordura duffel bag last?
There isn't a specific lifespan because it depends heavily on how the bag is used, but 1000D Cordura is designed for demanding applications where abrasion and durability matter. With reasonable care, a well-built Cordura duffel can provide many years of service.
That's one of the reasons Mountain Ridge Gear chooses heavy-duty materials and straightforward construction—we build our gear to be used, not treated delicately.
